Highland Exmoor Study Day

Saturday 4th March saw the first (of what we hope may grow) joint Study Day held at East of England showground organised by Debbie Spears and Elizabeth Etchells .  The sun shone for the nearly 120 delegates a mixture of judges, members and enthusiasts who enjoyed listening to excellent speakers with a wealth of knowledge about their breeds.
7 ponies from each breed came forward for Exmoor speaker Margaret Partidge-Keane and Highland speaker John Dykes from the Mendick Stud and listened to intently by a very enthusiastic group.  This followed a very interesting talk from David Wallace about managing the Anchor Herd on Exmoor.  Lunch gave an opportunity what seemed to be a “post winter” catch up with friends and a presentation from Russell Marks from the Veteran Horse Society about the use of their mark system.
Afternoon presentations from Kate Dykes on the Mendick Stud and Highland Pony Society President Gillian McMurray on Judges Conventions, Health and Safety and Ring Etiquette finished a thoroughly successful day.
