Spring show success for Fred

The sun shone on this year’s popular Exmoor Pony Society’s Spring Show and Stallion Parade this month.

The ponies, owners and spectators gathered at Emmetts Grange in Simonsbath on Exmoor for the event, which is open to any pony registered in Section 1 of the EPS studbook.

The day was organised for the first time by the Society’s new Exmoor Area Representative, Charlotte Matravers. She said: “This is an important event in the Exmoor pony Society calendar, and is a chance for owners to show their registered ponies, whether they are members or not. It is always lovely when the sun comes out to show these wonderful ponies at their very best.”

In addition to the Stallion parade, there were four classes judged by Stephanie Poulter, leading to some tough decisions and a highly competitive show. Tawbitts Squirrel Nutkin (also known as Fred) took the overall Supreme Champion, with Greystonegate Conker standing reserve.

Many thanks must go to Charlotte, Thomas (steward), Trica (photography) and to everyone who brought refreshments which were enjoyed by all during and after the show. A very positive, social weekend was had by all who attended – here’s to next year!

The Champion & Reserve Adult and Youngstock ponies qualified for ‘The Exmoor Pony of the Year’ which will be held at Rugby Riding Club in Warwickshire later this year.
