Successful 2024 AGM
Our AGM is an important event – and always interesting. This year 50 members attended the AGM at Brompton Regis village hall.
The day began with a very informative talk by Dr Debbie Davy about her PhD work on the Exmoor Pony genome. A full report will be published in due course.
After a delicious buffet lunch provided by local caterers Linda Pugsley & Sylvia Luxton, the more serious part of the day began with our chairman Nigel Hill presenting Mrs Ruth Thomas with her new President badge – and of course the Anchor Herd stick. He also thanked several others including Michael Dewhurst for his work as President over the last year, Jay Gee (secretary) and Susannah Muir (admin), and finally the trustees. Nigel will remain as Chairman for the next 12 months.
Next was the presentation of trophies which had been won by ponies’ owners over the 2023 showing season, a chance for open questions, with a final speech from Dai Thomas about the rule “that Exmoor ponies should be shown in natural state”. The afternoon finished with a short meeting of new and old trustees.
A lovely carvery was enjoyed by many of those who attended at the Rest & Be Thankful at Wheddon Cross. The day for a few ended with a hopeful drive to Dunkery to see the Northern Lights.
